Annual bazaar

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 544 Homestead Road, Chesapeake, will hold its annual bazaar on Saturday, September 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bazaar will feature handicrafts, Kuntry Story, White Elephant, Greenery Shop and Sweet Booth along with food and fun for all. ‘The Francis Effect’

“The Francis Effect on the Catholic Church” will be the theme of a presentation by Dr. Massimo Faggioli, associate professor in the Department of Theology at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, and Jesuit Father Thomas Reese, senior analyst for National Catholic Reporter, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richmond, on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. The suggested donation is $10. Book sale

The Women’s Club of St. Gregory the Great Church, Virginia Beach, will host its 19th Annual Gently Used Book Sale on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pashcal Hall Assembly Room. The books will include fiction, non-fiction, crafts, sports, history, politics, pets, medical/health, children, teen, classics, inspirational, and numerous other topics. The prices will range from 50 cents to $2.00 with specialty books slightly higher. Concert series

Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6400 Newport Avenue, Norfolk, will present “A Little Bit of Swing” on Sunday, Septemeber 20, at 4:00 p.m. to open its 2015-2016 Concert Series. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information please visit

Discovering Christ series

St. Matthew Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, will offer seven sessions of “Discovering Christ” on Tuesdays, Sept. 22 to Nov. 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall. 2nd Annual Go Forth Run

Saint Mary’s Catholic School invites you to participate in the 2nd annual Go Forth 5K on Saturday, September 26, at Deep Run Park. There will be a Kids’ Fun Run at 8:00 a.m., and the 5k will start at 8:30 a.m. Register before September 11th and the fees are $25 per adult and $15 per child in the Fun Run, or you can opt to pay $80 for a family. You can still register after September 11th, but the fees will increase. Following the race, there will be refreshments and fun activities, including a bounce house and face painting, for the kids. Alumni reunion

Our Lady of Victory Alumni Association, Portsmouth, will host a grand reunion of all former members, students, family, and friends of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church October 2-4. We are currently seeking names and contact information for any former OLV students or church members and their families. The church and school were established 85 years ago in 1930. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the closing of the church in 1965, and we want to invite all former members to “come home” for this grand reunion. Rosary Crusade

Knights of Columbus Council 511 invites you to our annual Rosary Crusade to honor Mary, our Blessed Mother. The procession starts on Sunday, Oct 4, at 1:30 p.m. at St Joseph Church, 512 Buckroe Avenue, Hampton, behind Cordier Hall. The​5th Annual Eagle Open golf outing for St. Matthew’s Catholic School will be held at 1p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25​ at Honey Bee Golf Course in Virginia Beach.You can help as an individual player, team, and/or sponsor and support Catholic education. Saint Mary Star of the Sea School in Hampton will hold its annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 10, at the Woodlands Golf Course in Hampton. The format is Captain’s Choice with four-player teams. Individual players will be placed in a four-member team. Tee time is 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost is $260 per team or $65 per person. The 4th Annual Bishop’s Golf Tournament presented by the Knights of Columbus and Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Richmond, will be held Monday, October 12, at Stonehenge Golf and Country Club, 1000 Farnham Drive, Midlothian. Format is 4-person Captain’s Choice best ball. Single players are welcome. Check-in is at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start will be at 9.
