Christmas concerts

Mechanicsville

Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Road, Mechanicsville, will have its annual Advent-Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 13th at 4:30 p.m. It will feature Redeemer’s Adult Choir, Instrumentalists, Children’s/Youth Choir, and the Redeemer Ringers. A reception will be held immediately following the concert.

Newport News

Peninsula Catholic High School, Newport News will hold it’s annual St. Nicholas Festival on Friday, December 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is no cost for to the festival, but tickets can be purchased for the Pancakes with Santa Dinner and Show featuring the PC Players, Band and Santa! Norfolk

Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6400 Newport Avenue, Norfolk, will present the Strolling Silver Strings as part of its 2015-2016 Concert Series on Sunday, December 13 at 4:00 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Powhatan

Christmas at Belmead on the James, St. Francis/St. Emma, 5004 Cartersville Road, Powhatan, will present the St. Elizabeth’s Church Gospel Choir and pianist Sam Lupica in its annual Winter/Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 12:30 p.m. Home-made desserts will be available following the concert.

(Editor’s note — this is a correction to the Shortake that ran in the November 9 issue of The Catholic Virginian suggesting that this concert would take place at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Highland Park.)

St. Edward Music Ministry will present the 6th annual Candlelight Carol Sing on Sunday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. with performances by Alicia Romeo (harp) and Anthony Smith (Baritone) featuring music of Bach, Biebl, Britten and traditional caroling. Williamsburg

The Saint Bede Music Ministry will present an Advent Festival of Lessons and Carols on Wednesday, December 2, at 7 p.m. at the church in Williamsburg. Please join with all the music ensembles in this beautiful candlelit service of choral music, Scripture readings, and traditional congregational hymns of the season.

Craft fair

Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 621 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, will be holding its 6th Annual Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, December 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a variety of items for purchase, hot lunches for sale, door prizes, and great fellowship.
