Craft Show

A Craft Show and Flea Market sponsored by the Women’s Club will be held on Saturday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the gym at St. Gregory the Great Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach. There will be over 100 Vendors. Baked goods and refreshment are also available. Admission is free.

The Shortakes column is reserved for parish, school or community-building events like retreats, a speaker for a Lenten or Advent series, concerts, bazaars and major fundraising efforts.

Cursillo event

A Cursillo Ultreya at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 52 Harpersville Rd. in Newport News, will be held Saturday, March 19, immediately following the 5 p.m. Mass in St. Michael's Hall. Casino Night, Auction

St. Mary Star of the Sea School in Hampton will hold a Casino Night & Auction on Saturday, March 19, at 6 p.m. in the school gym. The event will include live and silent auctions, appetizers, desserts, complimentary wine and beer, casino games, photo booth & more! Tickets are $30/person, $55/couple, or $35 at the door. Those who purchase a 50/50 Raffle Ticket for $100 will get one complimentary admission.

Irish Festival

Join parishioners of St. Patrick’s Church at the 31st Annual Irish Festival on March 19th/20th and located at North 25th and East Broad Streets, historic Church Hill. Bagpipes, Irish dancing, live bands, Celtic vendors; Irish beverages, food, family area. Since 1980s the Irish Festival has assisted St. Patrick’s in its mission, donating $500,000+ to charitable, educational, religious programs. “Twill be a sin to miss it!”


Easter Sunrise Mass

St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk will have the annual Easter Sunrise Mass on Sunday, March 27, at 6:30 a.m. Father Don Cavey, Chaplain with the VA Hospital in Hampton, will preside at the outdoor Mass in front of the cemetery's garden mausoleum.


Divine Mercy Sunday at the Abbey

Divine Mercy Sunday, April 3rd, will be celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church Abbey, 12829 River Road, Goochland with Mass at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Reconciliation will be offered between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Rosary at 2 p.m.; Divine Mercy Chaplet at 2:45 p.m. Call 804-708-9654 for more information.


Spaghetti Dinner

Bishop Ireton Knights of Columbus #6189 Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, April 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bishop Ireton Center located at 3300 Old Courthouse Road. Menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, tossed salad, bread, dessert, tea, coffee and lemonade. Price is $10.00 per ticket. Tidewater Spiritual Direction Institute

In The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis reminds us “…in our world, ordained ministers and other pastoral workers can make present the fragrance of

Christ’s closeness and his personal gaze.” The Spiritual Direction Institute established by the late Msgr. Chester Michael is offering a 2-year ecumenical adult formation program that explores the wisdom of the spiritual masters and provides over 50 tools to enhance personal spiritual growth and development that can then be used to support

Novena of Divine Mercy

The Church of the Redeemer, Mechanicsville, is offering the nine-day Novena of Divine Mercy beginning Good Friday, March 25, at 3 p.m. The Celebration concludes on April 3, Divine Mercy Sunday, from 2 to 4. The movie Divine Mercy — No Escape will be shown, followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, prayer of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Benediction. Redeemer is located at 8275 Meadowbridge Rd.
