Director of Communications

The Catholic Diocese of Richmond seeks a Director of Communications to advance the overall mission of the Diocese of Richmond through effective and proactive communications. The Director serves as official spokesperson and public relations strategist for the Bishop of Richmond, diocesan offices and as requested, diocesan parishes, schools and diocesan agencies. The Director is responsible for leading and managing the expanded communications office encompassing The Catholic Virginian, websites, social media and most communications. The Director will execute and positively contribute to the Communications Strategic Plan. The Director reports to the Bishop of Richmond.

Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in communications, public relations, journalism or related field is required, plus 7 or more years’ experience in media relations/public relations in a comparable position, supervising staff and providing senior leadership, communication advice and strategy.

This position requires a thorough knowledge of communication principles and practices with exceptional ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to include effective English language abilities and communication with a diverse group of people. Position requires a good understanding of diocesan demographics, creativity, sound decision-making, budgeting skills, interpersonal and collaboration skills, confidentiality, teamwork, negotiation, service orientation and public relations to foster the Church’s mission. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with parishes, schools, diocesan leadership, diocesan agencies, vendors and the media. Strong proficiency with various PC software as well as working knowledge of website design.

A candidate that is a Catholic in good standing with a strong working knowledge of the structure and teachings of the Catholic Church is required. Working knowledge of Canon Law is desirable.

Bookkeeper — Office of Finance

The Office of Finance seeks a Bookkeeper to support the Finance Office by assisting in review of external location (parish and school) accounting reports and serving as an accounting resource to the locations. The Bookkeeper will also perform first review of budgets, year-end closings and monthly statements. This position will record transactions and prepare reports along with reconciling Bank Account Statements. The Bookkeeper will provide backup support to A/P, A/R, Payroll and to the Assistant Director of Finance primarily in billing. An Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred and at least 3 years of relevant bookkeeping experience. Hispanic Minister
