Virginia Society for Human Life to host Pro-Life Speech Contest

For the sixth year, the Tidewater chapter of the Virginia Society for Human Life (VSHL) will be hosting a Pro-Life Speech Contest for high school junior and senior students. The purpose of the contest is to motivate our community’s youth to research and learn to articulate important pro-life principles. Additionally, VSHL hopes this experience will result in a lifelong activity in the pro-life movement.

This year’s prize money for the Tidewater Chapter contest is $500.00 for first place, $250.00 for second place and $100.00 for third place. Additional $50.00 awards will be given to speeches worthy of recognition.

The winners in the Tidewater chapter of the VSHL contests have had great success at the state level in recent years, and even had a national winner.

This year’s contest will be held on Saturday, March 19, at Regent University in Virginia Beach from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. High School juniors and seniors are invited to research, write and deliver a speech five to seven minutes in length addressing abortion, infanticide, euthanasia or stem cell research from a pro-life perspective.

Winners compete in the state contest held in Richmond, Va. in May. The state winner competes at the National Right to Life convention in June in Herndon, Va.

Deadline for application and a written copy of the speech is March 16, 2016.
